A Bit About McGregor Village & the Surrounding Areas
McGregor is a well-preserved & very special little village in the Western Cape, surrounded by rolling hills & lofty mountains. McGregor Village is one of the five most popular weekend getaway destinations for people in Cape Town & is a little Tourist mecca. It is an ideal base for exploring the verdant Breede River Valley – 40 quality wine estates & cooperatives, wonderful 3 hour excursions by tractor to the top of the Langeberg mountains, three barge trips on the Breede River, hot springs, famous hiking trails & biking, a living outdoor museum, two other museums (one specializing in lace & the other in herbs & herbal remedies- exported around the world), impressive cactus farm/garden. All this & more within 30 minutes drive from McGregor.
McGregor is an end destination only 160kms from Cape Town (under two hours). There
is no through road and this has contributed largely to the unique preservation of peace & tranquility in the village. It therefore has become a popular retreat for weary city dwellers. McGregor is a perfect overnight stop (or more) for travellers from the north, en-route to Cape Town and for overseas tourists exploring the Western Cape and
Klein Karoo. There is wealth of talent amongst local artists, potters & crafters. On the crossing of the lei-lines, McGregor is known for its spiritual energy which has resulted in it becoming known for diverse resident health therapists, and attractive as a place for soothing & healing mind, body & spirit.
The perfect climate has been described as “champagne days & crystal clear air & velvet skies at night, with stars so close it feels like you can reach out & touch them”.
Introduction to McGregor Country Cottages
McGregor Country Cottages comprises a main house and reception (“buitekombuis”) and entertainment area plus three cottages – Pepper Tree, Lemon Tree and Orchard. McGregor Country Cottages in its heyday was run as a resort with 8 cottages accommodating local and overseas guests, tour groups & hosting company conferences. Margie the owner has consolidated the property over the last few years to make it easy to run, and is retiring at the end of the year. She has decided to sell the consolidated property (6,222m²) as a going concern or rent out and sell off the individual properties, whichever comes first. The property has been approved for subdivision which gives rise to vacant plots as part of the package that could be developed too. So McGregor Country Cottages can either be purchased as a going concern which can be run as is, or expanded to include a restaurant, tea garden and more accommodation to host tour groups and conferences (It is ideal for an NGO headquarters or training retreat). Or it can be purchased as a combination of lifestyle and investment whereby the vacant plots can be developed over time and sold off. Interested parties could also buy one of the individual dwellings on a first come first served basis.
AA & SA Star Grading
McGregor Country Cottages has been graded as Highly Recommended by the AA & awarded three stars by the South African Star Grading Council. The highest Star Grading for Self Catering is 4 Stars for Luxury Resorts.
